The work of artist Saskia Griepink consists of assemblages, collages, paintings and pastel drawings from an imaginary organic world.
She investigates the relationships in form, texture and color patterns between small micro life forms and connects them with images of prepared food, clothing and machines.
This creates strange but lifelike looking plants and other fantastic or bizarre growth forms that may really become part of our world in the future.
Saskia grew up in an Dutch artist family and studied at the Academy of Arts and graduated in painting, environmental design and art-education.
She's working as independent artist in her studio in Hengelo in the east of Holland.
We first met on Instagram
Then we met in Amsterdam and Berlin.
We are inspired by each other’s work.
We are working together in a distance.
During drawing and working in my studio music and sounds are important. The layers of sound in the music from Atsuko Hatano are very inspiring for me.
Atsuko uses the moving and breathing of organism clusters for making music from a micro point or macro point of view.
Listening to the music which one is growing and changing in a naturale but a also an alarming way brings the colors, movements and meaning in each drawing.
We use a different medium but the source and the way of thinking about our environment is the same.
SWEET MOLD INVITATION
Mold is a multicellular fungus, growing and changing shape and colour layer by layer.
Sweet Mold is a growing concert in 2D, 3D and 4D performed by Atsuko Hatano (composer, musician, violist) and Saskia Griepink (drawing and collage artist) in which they combine live music and drawing into an interactive performance.
“We are not an artist duo. We are two artists who met each other a year ago on Instagram and later in real life in Amsterdam and Berlin.
We’re inspired by each other’s work and are currently working on Études - music and drawing experiences - using Skype as the bridge between Japan and the Netherlands.
During or first real life collaborative performance in Tetem on the 19th of May, we will make our own private work inspired by each other, like two different cells who meet, touch and then grow in different directions.”
Atsuko and Saskia invite you all for ther first collaborative performance on Sunday 19th of May:
14:30 Short introduction by the artists.
14:40 Live concert and drawing performance, played in different parts.
15:45 Q&A with the public.
16:00 End and the opportunity to discover Tetem's exhibitions.
